Learn about this timber

nglish Oak, commonly known as common oakpedunculate oak, or European oak, is a species of flowering plant in the beech and oak family, Fagaceae. It is native to most of Europe west of the Caucasus. The tree is widely cultivated in temperate regions and has escaped into the wild in scattered parts of China and North America.

In Australia, English oak is one of the most common park trees in south-eastern Australia, noted for its vigorous, luxuriant growth. It grows very quickly to a tree of 20 m (66 ft) tall by up to 20 m (66 ft) broad, with a low-branching canopy. Its trunk and secondary branches are very thick and solid and covered with deep-fissured blackish-grey bark. The largest example in Australia is in Donnybrook, Western Australia

These pens are made from timber I obtained from a local arborist.

#1 This pen has a great feel to it, and the chrome hardware looks just the part with the timber colour. The pen is heavy due to the density of the timber so you don't need to apply much effort to write with it.

#2 The richness of colour in the timber is set off nicely against the silver hardware. The pen is heavy due to the density of the timber so you don't need to apply much effort to write with it.

#3 The copper hardware really brings out the rich colour in the timber. A good weight to write with, and slim styling with gentle curves make this a very attractive instrument.
