River Red Gum is endemic to Australia, usually growing along watercourses across inland Australia. An interesting fact about these trees is that they can drop branches - sometimes the whole tree - without warning, making them commonly known as "widow-makers". They provide good summer shade from the heat, but taking advantage of it can be fatal.
