PENS, PENCILS - Blackwood (Acacia melanoxylon)

Blackwood timber is prized for it's strength and beauty and is one of the acacia species, native to south eastern Australia. The species is also known as hickory, mudgerabah, Tasmanian blackwood, or blackwood acacia. The tree is able to grow to a height of around 20 m (66 ft) and has a base that is approximately 150 cm (59 in) in diameter.

The Blackwood used for these pens came from a storm felled tree in Wildes Meadow, near Robertson in the Southern Highlands of NSW.
