The Australian timber gidgee aka ‘stinking wattle’ is one of our most distinct hardwoods. It is highly sought after for its depth of colour, beautiful lines and extreme hardness. The small, slow growing gidgee thrives in arid, challenging terrains. Many describe the smell given off when working it as pleasant and sweet.
The Aboriginal people have used it for centuries to make Nulla Nullas (hunting sticks or clubs), shields, boomerangs, swords, and clapsticks (photo below).
