Serving & Cutting boards and Coasters
How are your boards assembled?
Boards that have multiple pieces are precisely shaped to fit together and are glued with Titebond III adhesive which is waterproof.
Where are they made and who makes them?
All our products are handcrafted in our small workshop in Woonona, NSW, Australia, by their designer-craftsman.
Where are the timbers sourced from?
Our timbers are sourced from storm-felled or dead trees, from the NSW Southern Highlands to Cessnock in the Hunter Valley, and from house demolitions. No new or commercially produced timbers are used.
What finishes are used?
We use our own blend of food-safe beeswax/mineral oil to coat our boards.
Can they be washed in a dishwasher?
No. The temperature reached in dishwashers is too high, and the solvents in dishwasher liquids and tablets is too strong for the beeswax. To clean your board, simply wipe it using a damp cloth.
How do I restore the surface of the board if it gets marked?
Use a small amount of our beeswax/mineral oil and rub thoroughly into the surface of the timber. Wipe off excess with a clean cotton cloth.
Can I put hot pots and pans on them?
It’s not advised as you could burn the timber and cause permanent damage to your beautiful board.
Can you design and make serving boards to order?
Yes. Please make contact with your specifics and we can discuss.

Pens and Pencils
How do you make the pens?
Watch the videos of a pens being made. Two section, Single section, Fountain Pen
Can I get refills for the pens?
Yes. The two section pens use a “Cross” refill, and the one section pens use a “Parker” refill. The fountain pens use an ink cartridge. You can purchase these from most newsagents and stationery supply stores.
How do I replace the refill when it runs out?
See the video demonstration of how to change the refill.
What mechanisms are in the pens?
The mechanisms in all our ball pens require a twist action to extend and retract the nib.
What sanding grits do you use to get the pens so smooth?
We start with a 400, then 600, 1200, and finish with 2000grit.
What finish do you apply to the pens?
We use a 2-step finishing process. First a coat of U-Beaut Traditional Wax is applied, and then U-Beaut Shellawax Friction Polish which bonds with the wood to give a waterproof, hard surface finish.

Games - Dominoes, 0s & Xs
What finish is applied to these?
Our own non-toxic, food-safe beeswax/mineral oil blend.
Are they safe for small children?
Yes. The finish is non-toxic, and the pieces are too big to pose a choking hazard.
What printing process has been used on the pieces and box?
Laser etching has been used to print the dots on the Dominoes and 0s & Xs pieces, and the Dominoes boxes. It is a permanent and will not rub off.

Toys
Why have you used different types of wood in the toys?
Variety of timbers provides colour differences and interest, so there’s no need to paint them with a coating that would only chip or wear with play time. Having your children playing with natural materials will also help them appreciate their natural beauty.
Are they safe for young children to play with?
Yes. There are no loose pieces to fall off, and no toxic coatings on the toys. The toys are finished with Wattyl furniture wax, applied with a cloth.
Where did you get the plans for them?
I designed and made these myself. There were no plans to work from other than my own sketches.
If I wanted to make my own, do you have plans that I can purchase?
Yes. I’ve created a full set of plans for the semi-trailer and forklift, as well as detailed instructions for how to make them. They can be purchased in PDF format for $25 each.
Can you design and make toys to order?
Yes. Please make contact with your specifics and we can discuss.

Bowls
How do you decide what shape to make your bowls?
Practicality and usefulness play a part, but once turning I let the timber show me what it wants to become, and follow its lead.
How do you select the timbers to use?
That depends on the size of the bowl I want to make. For salt bowls I prefer to use hard timbers so they have a bit of weight to them. For larger decorative bowls I prefer to go with softer timbers due to the low hp capacity of my small lathe.
What tools do you use to turn your bowls?
Just the basics – nothing fancy. I have a small Carbatec lathe, with a small faceplate, a scroll chuck, and a basic set of gouges and chisels.
What’s the largest diameter you can turn?
250mm is the largest my lathe can accommodate.
What finishes do you use on your bowls?
That depends of what they’re intended to be used for. Decorative bowls usually are lacquered, bowls for food use are sealed with beeswax/mineral oil, salt bowls I finish with the 2-step U-Beaut wax & friction polish.

Necklaces & Pendants
How are your beads and disks made?
I look for the most interesting pieces I can find, pieces that will provide amazing contrast and texture such as the spalted Melaleuca Viridiflora beads. They are turned individually from small pieces, sanded to 2000grit, and finished with beeswax/mineral oil blend. This makes them resistant to moisture. The disk pendants are cut on my bandsaw and edge sanded round to the desired diameter, then pressed into a custom-made wooden chuck that holds them while being turned. After completing one side, I reverse the piece in the chuck and shape and finish the other side.

DROP65
What’s the Drop65 name about? What’s the logo?
Drop = water droplet, and 65 = the healthy hydration level for an adult. The logo is a water droplet with stylised 65 inside it. Cool eh! Drop65 is about taking care of both ourselves through adequate hydration, and taking care of others and our planet by not exploiting people or resources.
What relevance are the words “Conserve, Preserve, and Restore to the brand?
Through our ethical decisions we avoid damaging and/or wasting resources used in our products. By choosing to use recyclable plastics in our hydration products, we are doing our bit to preserve natural resources, and prevent damage and destruction of healthy trees. In our hydration products we promote restoration of our bodies and health through providing pure water to drink, and in our timber products we use timbers that would otherwise rot away, be turned into mulch, or worse, become landfill. In doing this we restore them to show their natural beauty.
Can I trust the Drop65 brand?
Yes! Drop65 has been around since 2017. Our mission, passion and products demonstrate that we are dedicated to looking after people and our planet. We have many satisfied customers who have provided glowing testimonials for our service and products.
